Kentucky Canvas Bag
With the artist spending many years in the state of Churchill Downs and bourbon, it was simple to bring to life a piece that is pure Kentucky. This painting highlights much of what the state has to offer like a cool mint julep and horse racing, but also much of what the state has produced. Kentucky is known for its bourbon and industry standard Louisville Slugger baseball bats, but even the beloved JIF peanut butter is celebrated here. While the industries of Kentucky are certainly important, perhaps even more central to American culture are the people associated with the wildcat state. Figures like Abraham Lincoln and Muhammad Ali are synonymous with Kentucky and the artist felt it was important they be included and appreciated in this piece. Lastly, and bringing a certain lightheartedness to the painting, Betty wanted to clarify that while Kentucky is most definitely southern there really aren’t as many banjos as you would think.
